the refrigerator WILL make it go stale faster, but wrapping the stale slices in a wet paper towel and nuking it in a microwave for about 4 or 5 seconds fixes that in a pinch, and I would rather have stale bread than molded bread
We freeze bread and cookies. Eating a thawed cookie gets the texture of a cake pop/dough but it’s fully baked! And I like putting chips and cereals and such in clear air tight containers. Stay fresh longer and you can keep track of how much you have easier as well.
Yeah, I only ever put cold things and condiments (not spices) in the fridge. But I've never had to worry about mice, either... though I did have bees once.
I think it depends on the ingredients in the syrup, if something is just pure maple syrup I don't think it molds easily but if it's sweetened with corn syrup or cane sugar, that's what molds
I refrigerate my peanut butter but only because it recommends it on the package, I get the kind thats literally just peanuts and nothing else so its shelf life isn't as good
cake actually improves with freezing, and it's a standard part of fancy cake decorating to freeze it between stages, but cookies and bread go stale but can be easily refreshed
this plurk is fascinating to me because most of the things mentioned in here are things i don't typically buy, so i'm turning this into a hypothetical thought exercise
