my buddy in a Discord server shared this and I need everyone to see this wheezes with laughter

I don't talk about the movies much on this plurk bc people have put in more eloquent and better terms the problems they have, but if there is one thing I'm deeply bitter over it's that they got Bill Hader, who is famous for impressions, for a character whose whole thing is impressions

and they just..........had him do two impressions

like I know he didn't want to do one of the scripted Voices bc that was old material! but like, at least a callback to the British guy!

how hard would it have been to squeeze in a few new impressions, HONESTLY

they went "hey can you do Al Pacino" and he was like "no that's old material" and instead of writing new material they just........didn't do anything else

overall I liked the movie by itself but then my taste in movies is somewhere along the lines of "would unironically enjoy Failure to Launch". as an adaptation? Nope

adaptations of big things are always going to cut some shit out but in the case of It I think they did a hack job of it

and also I am SO bitter they didn't...just. get Bill Hader to do more impressions. he has more in his repertoire than Al Pacino and Jabba the Hutt!!

but yeah in an otherwise mediocre movie (at best) Bill Hader turned in a real good performance but it could've been so much better

yeah like I don't think someone who only vaguely knows what Star Wars is will be able to know what Jabba the Hutt is - my parents are terrible at pop culture and I think the only thing they retained from Star Wars is Vader

none of the really iconic stuff is Jabba

or a celebrity impression! kid Richie did movie star impressions, they could've had him as an adult backslide a little into doing a Cary Grant impression or whatever the eighties equivalent was

I can't see Richie doing Stefon but I can see him pulling out a Keith Morrison from Dateline or doing a BBC newscaster voice

the Vader voice is more iconic tbh
