I honestly still feel extremely weird about the notion that we're in the last book

Jagganoth just showed up out of nowhere at the end of the last book like PUT ALL YOUR CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT ON HOLD LET'S DO A FINAL BOSS FIGHT

and then has spent like 90% of it just getting completely hammered by the demiurges

and now the hovertext is suggesting the fight is over

This doesn't feel like a climax

Honestly I see this fight shaking out one of two ways: Even Aspected Chaos+Incubus fails to do meaningful damage to Jagganoth and he gets up to end the fight, or they do beat him but without the threat of Jagganoth keeping them all together the demiurges all immediately turn on each other and ignite Universal War again

really just the 'by the way the next book is the last one' hit me like a truck

I would've guessed were to likethe halfway point

Allison has not directly fought ANY of the demiurges

This isn't the finale

And I know this because Alison hasn't got this haircut yet

I don't think Alice directly fighting the demiurges is going to happen tbh, at least not in, like, a productive way

If she does fight a demiurge she is absolutely going to get her shit kicked in

And I think that's kind of the point, this isn't a problem you can solve with war, it's a lot bigger than that

We’re also 40 pages into the book while previous books have been around 200 pages so yeah this is a prelude to something

honestly it seems more like "I think I'm going to wrap this up a lot earlier than I had originally planned welp"

it REALLY feels like "we got told the show was cancelled but we have just enough time to try and cram in the ending even though it's early and it will be rushed"

(except not due to executive meddling obvs, more likely wanting to move onto their next project)
