♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Can’t sleep, so gonna give some thoughts I have about the finale
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
I’m not...entirely thrilled with the whole “Webby is Scrooge’s clone daughter” reveal?
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
It just feels like it undercuts a big theme in the show
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
About Found Family and not having to be directly related to be family
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Like, even though Donald and Della are Scrooge’s nephew and niece, they all still had to get to know each other before they considered each other family
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Same with Scrooge and the boys, and even Della and the boys. And for a while it was like that with Webby too
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Everyone had to get to know Webby, and Webby in turn learning a bit more about them, but soon Webby was considered part of the family
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
And it just feels weird for the show to then turn around and say “Well she’s been related all along so never mind”
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
And it creates this weird...hierarchy in the family now. Like, oh yeah Scrooge still loves Donald and Della and the boys, but he loves Webby more now because she’s his direct heir
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
And it feels like such a slap in the face to Webby’s overall journey through the series
Meow Knight
Yeahhh... It's one of the reasons her calling Scrooge "Dad" bugs me so much. Like he was already kind of a dad figure to her, but now that they're genetically related she has 'gained the reason to call him Dad' or something. It feels super off.
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Because here is a girl who has been learning and researching about this family, and obsessing over and idolizing this incredible man who, for the majority of her life, didn’t really give her the time of day
Meow Knight
Also, not how cloning works. Unless she's not a full clone but more of a petri dish baby but that's a whole other can of worms.
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Which okay fine, it’s probably because he forgot how to family. Which he learns to do again when the nephews come back into his life
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
And then she becomes accepted by them, and becomes one of them. And it does get the notice of the man she’s been looking up to, who treats her just like he does the boys
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Throughout the course of the series, Webby has struggled and wormed and clawed her way into this family, and slowly but surely she does become apart of it
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
But then at the very end, the man she idolizes so much gives her the attention and affection she’s been craving and desperate for, not because of who she is, but because of what she turns out to be?
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
That....doesn’t feel good
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Meow Knight
: Actually, it is possible to make a female clone from a male parent by removing the Y chromosome. It only works with males though
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
You can’t make a male clone from a female parent
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
But I digress
Meow Knight
Why would Bradford do that though? It makes no sense.
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Maybe to hide the fact she is Scrooge’s clone? Make it less obvious/suspicious
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Or maybe just to mess with him, I dunno
Meow Knight
But yeah my point is if you clone someone, you can't call the original "dad". Calling May and June sisters still kinda makes sense in a twin context, but Dad? Eesh that was unwarranted.
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
But yeah, the whole family/genetics thing is just...Even with Donald adopting May and June, which don’t get me wrong is adorable and Donald continues to be the best dad ever, feels a bit off? Since they’re clones of Webby, and therefore by extension Scrooge
Meow Knight
...oh god we've come full cycle.
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
So it’s less “these girls don’t have anywhere else to go” and more “well you’re already related anyway c’mon”
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Meow Knight
: I mean, there’s been other media where clones call the originals their parents, that isn’t what bothers me. It’s that her being Scrooge’s clone/daughter completely changed the dynamics of their relationship
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
As well as with the rest of the family
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Like....so she’s Scrooge’s daughter. What happens with her and Beakley? What about her and the boys? How do Donald and Della feel about a new little cousin?
Meow Knight
It definitely changed things with Scrooge, not sure what it changed with the others. We don't really see the triplets react properly, do we? I'm not sure Donald knows at all. Like he was there when she said "Dad" but did not react.
Meow Knight
THE FINALE WAS TOO SHORT
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
This definitely feels like it should have been a separate season. Like, Huey got a bit ripped off for what was supposed to be his focus season
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
And....I dunno, even some of the stuff I had wanted didn’t feel right
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Like, the bit about Della being afraid of losing Donald was cute, until you remember that they’ve barely interacted since she got back?
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
I was not completely sold on that
Meow Knight
I'm still weeping over the missed opportunity of Bradford having two brothers(????) and the series not drawing any parallels to the triplets. Bradford could've further won Huey over by lamenting how difficult it is to be the smart one.
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Yeah
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Or even him making something up about losing touch with his brothers and wanting to fix things, I dunno
Meow Knight
YES.
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
And....honestly, that was the big plan? “Granny took me on adventures and it was chaos, so I’m getting rid of adventuring”
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Okay?
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Though honestly, if that was his thing, it would’ve been cool to see a parallel between Bradford and Donald
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Like, imagine Bradford trying to manipulate Donald; reminding Donald of almost losing his sister for good, of all the danger the family is constantly put in, telling Donald that he and his family can just have a normal life if he cooperates with FOWL
Meow Knight
Oh man that would've been extra brilliant when you take the "how do you think Della found out about the Spear?" line into account!
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Yesssss
FOR THE CALD
I’m still just not over the blatant gargoyles references.
FOR THE CALD
Those crazy sons of bitches pulled it off. They referenced the entire Disney afternoon.
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Yyyyyyup
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Even got Keith David, which is a nice touch
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Speaking of the Disney Afternoon, I don’t think I saw Goofy in the group shot with everyone, but I’m gonna imagine he’s there anyway for my own peace of mind
Cy-BRR!-a
Actually, I don't think Webby being a clone undercuts the whole thing based on May and June. If family was purely blood, those two should've been able to summon the Papyrus to them. However, Scrooge didn't know about their existence and - by extension - their connection to him, so he didn't consider them family and, by extension, potential heirs.
Cy-BRR!-a
He didn't know Webby was his biological daughter (albeit via cloning) but he accepted her as family.
Cy-BRR!-a
If anything, the finale seems to confirm that Webby has a stronger foothold in Scrooge's heart than even the triplets since the Papyrus only appeared to her.
Cy-BRR!-a
Then again, they weren't anywhere near where the Papyrus was hidden, so there you go
Max
Interestingly, I’m looking at what you’re saying, Usami, and at what Meowzy is saying in here, and I think that’s the point, entirely. Webby is Scrooge’s DNA but that’s not how a literal family unit works. She isn’t his daughter by definition, but when Webby find out she’s Scrooge’s clone, that makes him “dad” to her because of what he means to her.
Max
Scrooge accepted Webby as his daughter in turn, because that’s the path we’ve been on since, at least, the Agent 22 episode. Webby has worked her way into his heart, so while he has no obligation to consider his clone his daughter, he does anyway.
Max
They are related, in a weird way, but entirely still a found family, not to mention the huge found family themed with Beakley, who found a lab baby created by an evil organization and raised her and loved her.
Cy-BRR!-a
^ This!
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
I dunno, the fact that he becomes more affectionate to her only after the clone thing is revealed still feels off to me
Max
I didn’t see him only becoming more affectionate with her then, though? That’s something that’s been happening throughout the series as far as I saw
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
And even with the whole found family thing she had with Beakley, being Scrooge’s daughter might change that
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
But the show ends before we see that
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
I dunno. I just....if you like it, that’s cool. I’m just not a big fan of it in the end
Max
They did adress that Beakley is still “granny” to Webby, though. Like, I’m not trying to be precious about the show, god knows I’ve had my complaints and criticisms! But when Beakley started to walk away from Scrooge and Webby, and the Webby ran to get Beakley into the hug while saying “granny” - I think that was what was being addressed. That said?
Max
I am sorry it was disappointing to you! Even if I don’t personally understand it in this case, I know it’s a sucky feeling to be let down this way.
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Yeah. And I’m not trying to dismiss it for people either! It’s great if you like it. It just bothers me lol
Cy-BRR!-a
I pretty much had the same reaction as Zumi, but I can see why you might be bothered by it. It's all good.
Meow Knight
Yeah it's a very subjective twist. Either you like it or you don't, I think.
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Yeah, that’s totally fair!
Cy-BRR!-a
Meow Knight
Personally I just think it had no reason to exist. I don't understand why it was written in.
Meow Knight
But that's just me.
Max
Wait Cybra are you referring to my reaction?
Cy-BRR!-a
...Yes. I don't know why I thought you were Zumi for a sec. SORRY. D:
Max
IT’S OKAY LMAO
Max
I just found it amusing tbh!
♩ 𝓜𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓜𝓾𝓼𝓮 ♩
Meow Knight
: I feel you
