things that will get me to check out a canon

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
1. tortured male villain on a slippery slope of redemption? CATNIP TO ME.

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
2. a good old fashioned enemies to lovers tale

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
3. there is more than one female character and they actually do things! they're not just a love interest, they're well written!

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
4. quirky offbeat humor - this one is kind of hard because there are times its just GRATING but done right it can be really fun

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
think like, pushing daisies or the good place

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
5. flawed characters - keep your perfect cinnamon rolls, i want problematic, flawed characters

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
i guess this can tie into redemption arcs and # 1 on this list, but this one is not specific to villains or male characters

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
6. horror. i love ghost stories, movies that are more subtle than GORE FESTS AW YEAH or JUMPSCARES JUMPSCARES AND JUMPSCARES

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
i love movies where it's more about the build up, the fear that there's something lurking just off screen and you're just waiting for it

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
the first conjuring movie, which only had a few major jumpscares but had moments of tension and fear and then throws you into shit

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
the first time i saw it i was high on cold medicine and let me tell you, it FUCKED ME UP

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
i didn't sleep for a god damn week, it felt like

space dragons
gimme your horror recs

space dragons
I don't like gore or too many jump scares either

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
sometimes the jump scare ladden movies are fun too like - grave encounters is full of them but its one of the few found footage movies i didn't hate

space dragons
I had HIGH HOPES for The Woman in Black and then it was just 800 jump scares.

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
OH. movies where the house/setting is almost as much of a character and central to the plot - think crimson peak

space dragons
have you watched Haunting of Hill House/Bly Manor yet

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
i liked the woman in black but it didn't need 9000 of them

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
not yet!!

space dragons
you must

space dragons
there are ghosts, tragedy, and everyone's a disaster

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
i've heard its up my alley, i dont know why i never checked it out tbh

space dragons
the first one is literally a comfort watch for me

space dragons
I'll watch it again with you anytime

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
i'll check it out, i'm terrible at watching shows rn unless its with someone else

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
hmmmm

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
WHAT ELSE

cricketussy
It suddenly occurs to me that I don't think I've recced Nirvana in Fire to you and it has a wonderful cast of flawed characters and many kickass women in it. But it's also subtitled and dense enough to require some focus so right now is probably not the ideal time for it.

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
cricketussy
: LMAO YEAH if i gotta pay too much attention to it i probably cant do it at the moment

cricketussy
But def one of my favorite shows ever.

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
like i've watched kdramas and whatnot before but now i feel like i cant focus

cricketussy
Yeah same. I had started watching the sequel to Nirvana in Fire in early 2020 and then stuff happened and the person I was watching with and I were both like nope we'll do this later

cricketussy
I haven't had the focus to even read subtitles this past year, much less follow complex plots with them

ʏօʊʀ ɨɖօʟ
i watch things better when i'm watching with someone else. i watched the first 3 seasons of the expanse with a group and i havent been able to check the last 2 because i dont want to do it alone

cricketussy
Yeah, I hear that.
