my dude is taking a class on ancient Mesopotamia right now, just for fun, and he was enthusing to me just the other day about pots!

they'd put counters in a pottery ball and fire it and send it along with shipments of goods so the buyer could break it on receipt and double-check the number of items that ought to be there, haha
