anyway this is not to say I think this was a negative aspect or poorly executed but I DO feel frustrated that I think I would have figured out the Yukimasa reveal beforehand if I had not discarded it as a possibility in my mind bc of prior compelling misleading information convincing me to discard it as a possibility entirely

esp since there were in fact numerous tells in that scene that the merchant was not Yukimasa that I just never thought I had reason to examine,

in retrospect pretty much the entire first half of door 1 was excruciating for me but even though I had more fun later, I think I ultimately didn’t enjoy it much as a whole either

which like... both he and Yukimasa have these like multi-layered tiered reveals about who they are as people but somehow for Yukimasa I got this like incredibly in-depth understanding of him out of it

but for Mell I like, finally started to like him when he was getting strangled except then every sharp turn he took after that I just kept ended up feeling like wait what?? what was the point of everything else so far then???

so maybe I would like door 1 more on reread on the basis that I could go back through and properly see how it all ties together but then I’d have to go through the fucking unending awkward teenage courtship sequences again
