yep, my first finale had my primary document be a six volume, six-hundred page each collection of naval and governmental correspondence of the US during the Barbary Wars

all written in the early 19th century style with many a naval term and shorthands of the day thrown in.

some of my classmates had to translate from old spanish from theirs

(as they were covering the Aztecs and most of the surviving primary text is from the conquistadors and missionaries

also, I weirdly find Chicago style more intuitive than MLA

Fortunately, my graduate thesis was in twentieth century history so I didn't have to do the insane level of work translating and dealing with hard-to-read primary sources

But I know people who had to do that
