So, how do you guys define "liberal", "progressive", and "socialist"?

Please do not just copy paste definitions
%Cu+ie^_^ki||er
liberal is closer to a centrist imo, they want no upheavle and are fine with the status quo
%Cu+ie^_^ki||er
progressive and socialist and similar to eachother, they're both in favor of rights for marginalized classes, but I think socialists are more involved in economics
Princess Emily
liberal is anything to left of center but when directly contrasting to those other terms, it describes JUST left of center
Princess Emily
progressive is further left and calls on reforms beyond incremental
Princess Emily
socialist is an actual tenable political position and not just an alignment on left-right
Princess Emily
a socialist is a progressive, a progressive might not necessarily be a socialist
Blighty
socialist refers to a specific set of economic and political beliefs
progressive is a general catch-all for people interested in making real social change but otherwise to me is poorly defined and kind of buzzwordy
Blighty
liberal is technically anything left of center but as emily says when contrasted with other terms means 'mildly disapproves of fascism'

like I know what communist is and feel that's fairly well defined but socialist seemed less so
Princess Emily
the way I've always contrasted the two is that communism is about completely destroying and rebuilding the frames of society i.e. capitalism bad, workers own the rights to what they make instead of factory owners, etc. etc. that kind of stuff
Princess Emily
Socialism isn't necessarily about those but requires robust social programs in order to ensure that people's needs are met regardless
%Cu+ie^_^ki||er
under socialism you can still like, own things. but there would be better social programs like has been said, rich would be taxed fairly, workers own means etc
%Cu+ie^_^ki||er
universal health care, universal basic income etc
Tanarian
Princess Emily covered it well.

Thankyou for the input. Your answers were much more helpful than the self-described communist facebook group I asked on 😅
Tanarian
Communism is a terrific ideal... that doesn't seem possible in practice with humans.
