anyway I have two show recs for anyone that wants to binge something that isn’t full of white dudes, there is a really good intense space scifi on Amazon prime and then there is a Women Doing Cool Fight Shit mindless fun one on netflix

The Expanse is a big scale action political drama slash Oh No Alien Technology Is Going To Wipe Out Humanity ok now back to political drama thing, I would say it actually takes a lil bit to get Really good but it’s sooooo well thought out and also Shohreh Agdashloo plays Chrisjen Avasarala aka my wife

but there’s like

Idk maybe 7 white people out of 40 recurring significant characters and that ratio gets less and less white as the show goes on. the vast majority of the cast is mixed race

I will say my big gripe with it at the start is that there were three main pov characters to start with and I hated both of the two who weren’t Avasarala

their manpain was incredibly insufferable to me. also the PI character’s storyline is legitimately pretty uncomfortable

however, I actually like both of them later,

also now there are like 10 pov characters instead of just those three. it stopped pretending to have main characters and just went full ham ensemble.

the Women Doing Cool Fight Shit one is Warrior Nun and I want all of them to kiss

it’s honestly like solidly ok. I will say it used its own mediocrity to good effect against me because I assumed something was just a product of sloppy writing and then it was like “haha actually that was ON PURPOSE, THERE WAS A LEGITIMATE REASON”

but the characters are all INCREDIBLY charming and it’s just a very fun easy watch

The Expanse is 5 seasons (the 5th is actually ongoing and being released on Tuesdays) and Warrior Nun is just one rn but it got renewed for a second at some point I think

anyway if anyone watches either of these pls liveplurk for my enjoyment or just dm me to yell or something,

my fiance wanted to watch Warrior Nun, so I might end up watching it with them at some point (*assuming they didn't already just watch it)
