my tub has been clogged for 10 days so I've been taking showers while I worked on getting it cleaned. The boys bought some stuff for me that has torn right thru the hair clog and I had my first bath in over a week. I used ALL the hot water!

Nice! Mine has had clogging problems on and off for years and I use the heavy duty Liquid Plumber. It does the job but last time it was so bad I had to do it twice to really clear it. I asked the plumber to check it last time he was here (2 years ago) and he said they use a specialist for tub drains. Guess he was referring to a roto-rooter or the like.

Suze : they got me a drain snake but also that drain goo (i don't have the bottle next to me of course) I did use it twice and now need to put in a hair trap. I"m going bald I guess! I hate it when the tub clogs. blech

I'd guess the hardware is 60s-70s era and the the guts of the lever/plug thingie is shot so there's an old-fashioned rubber stopper to use for a bath so I just rarely bother with a both and just shower.

A snake won't work with this one because of the metal stopper guts are in the way. It's always drained slowly and that's no doubt a big reason why. It doesn't take much to clog it up. This old bathroom really needs redoing but I doubt I can convince them unless something really major comes up. I can't blame them because they're just minor inconveniences.

Suze : same here about the drain guts. I CAN remove them and use a hair trap but I don't want to make that call and then destroy something else!

I've had that same trouble recently myself! We had to use something ultra strong and the fumes alone made the dog and I have to leave the house for multiple walks those days!

Melyna : Yikes! Fortunately the stuff I use isn't that bad to me but some heavy duty cleansers are almost that bad.

I’m going to have to take drastic measures with a bathroom sink in our house. Baking soda and vinegar did not work. It helped til the next time he trimmed his beard...and whomever built this house made it impossible to disassemble the pipes under the sink
