Vyng's 5 worst traits, according to me
1. He can be a hypocrite
Example 1
vyng: Billie, watch your language.
also vyng: Billie, don’t fuck around with that pipeleaf
Example 2
vyng: Billie, don’t put random stuff in your mouth
also vyng: licks dust off of a table
He is 100% aware of his own hypocrisy, he just doesn’t care
“DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO.”
though in his defense…..half-elves canonically have stupidly long tongues, like a gecko
And elven physiology changes based on the environment they grew up in
(Vyng doesn’t have dark vision because he grew up in a tundra, for example.)
So I HC that he basically has a gecko tongue that can sense a limited number of things about the environment (LOL)
ALSO re: cursing, Vyng has a tendency to censor himself if they’re in public. (i.e. mouthing the word “fucking” instead of saying it at full volume)
it’s exactly the kind of thing my mom does, and I think it’s hilarious
Still hypocrisy tho
2. Does shit like casually let crystal slowly consume his body for 2 story arcs…while also using powers that aggravate his condition
Nobody in canon calls him out on this, because they trust he'll sort himself out eventually.
And you know what? That's fine and refreshing
Because they’re usually right, and Vyng generally returns the favor
(They avoid a BUNCH of unnecessary drama this way, tbh)
In he doesn’t enjoy the same level of trust from cross-canon CR, and he’s starting to change his behavior as a result
Namely not using Elemental Mastery for slice-of-life bullshit, and also making sure not to use it when he’s alone
(thank you Tuck and Glitch for pointing out how shitty it’d be for the people around him if he fucking died.....)
Ceej your boy’s words didn’t fall on completely deaf ears
That said…Vyng deffo has self-sacrificing tendencies, and word of god says he has a lot of self-loathing so
IMO, he underestimates how devastated his friends and family would be if he disappeared
Which, on one hand...what the actual fuck??
But it also means he doesn’t take other people’s affection or love for granted. And that’s why he’s so ride or die for them
So, there's...that, I guess LMAO
Ceej
Hakjagaua
Ceej
I mean
Ceej
you're welcome vyng?
Vyng: makes friends with someone
Friend: I'd be devastated if you died
Vyng:
he's a fucking idiot
3. Self-medicates with booze and sex when he’s stressed. And then gets all depressed and moody when his other coping mechanisms fail him. (i.e. shrugging it off or relentless optimism)
He’d probably do this less if he…actually confided in his close friends/family more often about his problems lmao
WHY he doesn’t is more up in the air. But my guess is that he assumes most people have zero frame of reference for his specific problems
Which means there isn’t much they can do beyond lend a sympathetic ear and be like “that’s rough, buddy”
And, like......he can get the exact same response from his wooly pig! Or a total stranger LMAO
(Never mind the fact that opening yourself up is the best way to connect with people. And I’m pretty sure he knows this?? But it just isn’t something he'll share with friends without some nudging)
Also, he’s spent most of the series being extremely guarded about the fact he’s an exile. So that was another incentive to keep stuff close to the chest
THAT SAID.....it's possible he's found healthier outlets in season 7. Might still be too soon to tell, though
We'll see
4. Terrible at long-term planning. Easily distracted. Leaves problems for Future Vyng to deal with, more often than not
His go-with-the-flow, “whatever will be, will be” attitude only adds to this
I’m amazed he’s able to hold a full-time job, tbh
Probably why social work appeals to him — helping people gives him purpose, and therefore keeps him more engaged
5. Can say some insensitive shit when he’s isn’t actively trying to comfort someone
Usually when he lets his internal filter down
(or everyone OOCly piles on Paul for some smart-ass remark, and they insist it was in character, RIP)
But IN GENERAL druids can be pretty insensitive and socially awkward because they
1) spend a lot of time away from civilization and
2) have a “wow nature’s a bitch, huh” type of pragmatism that comes from being keenly aware of the fact that you’re just a tiny speck in the cosmos.....and 80% of stuff that happens to you is outside of your control anyway
So I head canon that’s a big part of it
BONUS: Stubbornness.
Not a problem 95% percent of time, because he’ll defer to whoever has the strongest opinion or biggest personality (spoiler: usually not him)
But when he decides to fight you on something……good fucking luck LOL
“I only argue when I’m right” is probably something he’d say. While also admitting he knows he’s probably wrong, like…95% of the time Pfffft
He was especially bad as a teenager
Aaaand I think that’s…everything
This was a fun exercise, I’m glad I did it
Thank you for coming to my TED talk
