[onyx equinox] the gods in this show are terrifying

not JUST because they're city-sized monsters tearing each other apart to drink blood like molten gold

although that happens to be the case

but because of their absolute indifference and contempt towards humanity

humans are a source of blood for them, nothing more

they kill people in order to inhabit their bodies to make bets with each other with thousands of human lives as collateral

an entire city sinks into the underworld and the surface gods are like "dick move. we were using that blood"

cruel gods for a cruel world

I did some research and apparently the story of the show dips pretty heavily into the Aztec creation myth

the impending apocalypse Izel has to stop is the end of the fifth sun

"The gods have to pick someone else!" "The gods don't have to do ANYTHING."

oooh how are you liking it? have a friend who did backgrounds for it :0

it's pretty good! a step up from Blood of Zeus, which it feels like it has a lot of overlap with (western-made anime with kind of a low-budget look based on mythology)

except OE actually is fun to look at because of the design creativity
