Why do people do that, do they get anything out of it?

I suspect the next step is that I follow up to say, "OMG, yeah, I want it" and he comes back to say "OK, send me the deposit by money order (to start the paperwork)". He gets his $1,000 and disappears with a smile on his face.

He sent me this - and said he had to leave the home and move to Jacksonville to get cancer treatment for his daughter. He wanted a safe tenant to look after his home.

I'm sorry that it wasn't real. How did you find out?

We found one of those on Craigslist last spring when we were looking. Checked the property owner against the guy emailing us who wasn’t answering direct questions and they didn’t match. Sorry you got your hopes up.
