[discord] Query: which is less memory-intensive, opening Discord in its app or in a browser tab?
Hooded Figure
Ah, nice! That's good to know. :-D

I found the browser extension to be like /six minute whoopee cushion noise
𝕚𝕔𝕖 𝕡𝕣𝕚𝕟𝕔𝕖𝕤𝕤
the desktop app can get very "I'M GONNA UPDATE NOW" "you just updated" "UPDATING :-D :-D :-D" when it's patch time but otherwise works well!
Hooded Figure
(haha)
Hooded Figure
Excellent information right here~
Ptriciadactyl
I like the browser version on my laptop but the app on my phone
Ptriciadactyl
my complaints about the desktop app aren't big ones - I kind of hate the way when the desktop app gives me a notification in the bottom corner of my screen, it blocks me from clicking anywhere near there for a few seconds, but otherwise when I've used it I haven't had any issues. I think it slows things down when I restart but not once things are all running
Ptriciadactyl
I mostly use the browser version because it's just easier for me to click between browser tabs (discord is always my leftmost tab) than to click open another program when I get a message
Hooded Figure
I'm considering switching because I always have so many tabs open that a bunch of them go off the end of the tab bar.... XD
𝖗𝖎𝖌𝖍𝖙 𝖕𝖗𝖔𝖕𝖊𝖗!
I thiiiiink I have those notification tabs turned off, but not sure
𝖗𝖎𝖌𝖍𝖙 𝖕𝖗𝖔𝖕𝖊𝖗!
they can definitely be annoying.
𝖗𝖎𝖌𝖍𝖙 𝖕𝖗𝖔𝖕𝖊𝖗!
anyway, I am an app user all the way, no matter the platform or device.
Hooded Figure
(Hey, hello! ^^ )
Hooded Figure
I've been slow to move from browsers to apps, since I do most stuff on my laptop, but this might be worth doing for me.

Hooded Figure
Where are you hanging out these days?
Hooded Figure
....also is there a way to get discord to show which servers have been active in the folders/server menu, because I'm having to guess (LOL)
TRON
If I'm thinking right, if you're using the browser version, there should be a white line to the left of the icon for the server if there's posts you haven't read in it.
TRON
It kinda looks like a little white gumdrop sticking out from the side of your screen
Hooded Figure
I'm trying out the app! The whole structure is still very nonintuitive to me but I'm learning.
Hooded Figure
....those are here too, but it's there for all of them XD;;;
TRON
Ah, okay! Yeah, I don't know anything about the app.
Hooded Figure
Oh, I see -- the issue is that all of the servers I'm on have had activity. XDDDD
TRON
Oh! That would do it, lol XD
Hooded Figure
(LOL)
Hooded Figure
I shall!
Hooded Figure
...meanwhile zomu I remembered I can set my start menu to for small icons and this is life-changing. This bad boy can fit so many programs on it now.
Hooded Figure
now if only it'd do line breaks between groups
Hooded Figure
or title bars
Hooded Figure
but anyway: what I think I'm understanding here is that servers are like a journal/comm situation in that you can have and/or join any number of personal ones or subject-based ones (thinking)
Hooded Figure
however, they're a bunch of chats on the inside so the subject-based ones don't have sortable tags or posts as such...?
Hooded Figure
and servers can be put in folders to reduce clutter
Hooded Figure
....a specific chat log is called a channel? maybe?
Hooded Figure
but the ctrl-K quicksearch (as it keeps reminding me) allows searching for "servers, channels, or DMs", which, I guess it searches only your specific direct messages? XDDD But public servers/channels?
Hooded Figure
There are so many tools and functions and I can see the utility but also it's a lot to learn XD
TRON
I think that all sounds right? I haven't used Discord a whole lot, but, yeah, there's a lot to it, and not all of it is intuitive.
