For anyone who wants to play Penumbra, all games are actually episodes of the same game/plot and should be played in the order Overture, Black Plague, Requiem.

For anyone who wants to play Amnesia, knock yourself out! All installments are individual games and can be played separately, with only loose connections/references to each other.

The order of release was The Dark Descent (+Justine), A Machine for Pigs & Rebirth. I would recommend playing Rebirth last if you want to go ZERO spoilers, as there are some references that could count as spoilers for TDD

For anyone who wants to play Soma, there is only one game, it is called Soma, and you should play that game.

I am much too chicken for the Amnesia games honestly but I think I could do Soma

I believe Soma actually has a "no monsters" mode of sorts these days, for people who want to focus on the story/environment/etc. Unfortunately I dont know if A:TDD or MfP does too. They said they might do one for Rebirth as well, but want to see how ppl react to the "original" first.

So I researched a bit and sadly it seems Soma is so far the only game you can play on "safe" mode. The one other exception is actually Penumbra:Requiem which has no monsters by default, so if you like a spooky/weird atmosphere and puzzles (and don't mind some spoilers/references to a story you haven't played) then that might also be an option for you.

Also Penumbra: Overture has the slight advantage that you can actually kill nearly all enemies. So like. If it comforts you to not sneak and instead awkwardly whack things with a pickaxe until they die then this might also be an option to consider.

[ Fun fact: Technically you can also kill nearly all the enemies in Penumbra:Black Plague, but the game does not usually provide you with tools to do so, but a video exists of somebody throwing boxes at an enemy for roughly eight years until it finally dies from the accumulation of minor damage.]
