[ CW: Animal injury/Pictures ] I'm crying and freaking out. At work and the cat is really injured and I don't know what to do.

I saw him yesterday and he wasn't like this

I called and texted pictures to them

but they rarely bring the cats to the vet since they live mostly in the barn. Snowflake comes in and out of the house though

I would even be willing to bring him in. I don't have money but I would find a way if they will let me

probably the most useful thing you can do immediately if taking straight to the vet is out of the option , if he'll let you is to wash it with a warm cloth or even wring some warm water out over it? and yes make sure he doesn't touch it

I'm not a vet, but that looks like an abscess that ruputured to me, particularly if he's showing other signs of infection and got it while he was inside.

My mom was taking care of an outdoor cat that came back with a very similar looking injury once and it ended up being an abscess.

i think though that... even if he's a barn cat your employers should still be the ones paying his vet bills, so i really hope that even if you have to take him in, they'll step up and do that :<

wow...yeah no that looks like something a vet should look at for sure. When we had horses we had barn cats but they were all treated like gold. Cause they made sure we didn't have mice in the feed

that's really valid as a feeling though i think.. i wish, if not taking him to the vet, they would at least wash/cone/keep him in the house for a couple of days though

Maybe I will go to the vet tomorrow and talk my own kitties' vet, and see if I can...get a cone. I also have some disposable litter boxes. I can pick up some kitty litter too
