不過關於段子手跟政治家的關係，確實有個名詞叫做「麵包與馬戲（拉丁語：panem et circenses）」現象，若用在政治的場合，通常用來形容民眾對政府認可的產生不是通過政府示範或實施優質的公共政策來實現的，而是通過轉移、分散民眾的注意力，或僅僅滿足民眾一時的表層需求來實現的。白話文就是：一幫優秀的段子手或戲精可以讓民眾短暫產生政府好棒棒的錯覺。
