Hi, my name is Emily and I'm a hobby artist based in New Jersey. Thank you so much for checking my project out! This is my second Kickstarter and I'm so excited to introduce these designs.
While creating these pins, I thought about how nature, seasons, and animal symbolism are so prevalent in Asian culture. I wondered "how could I combine these motifs in a fun and unique way?" when a metaphorical lightbulb went off in my head , thus bringing these designs to life.
Each pin features an animal and a flower, along with scenery that I thought would best fit the overall theme and symbolism of the piece. The first four pins are seasonal, and correspond accordingly to spring, summer, fall, and winter.
Most, if not all of the animals have a certain cultural or symbolic significance. For example, the white rabbit on the moon is a common myth in Eastern folklore, and originates from China. The designs themselves feature themes found in Chinese and Japanese culture, as they are the ones I am most familiar with.
I wanted to give some background info on these last two pins! The Chinese phoenix and dragon, when matched together, are symbols of matrimony. Often during weddings their likenesses are given to the couple as decorative golden bangles, respectively.
In these pins, I tried to portray this symbolic relationship in visual patterns and imagery. Fire vs water, dark vs light, night vs day, as the phoenix rises, the dragon descends, etc. As well, the flowers themselves are symbols of happiness in love and prosperity.
Although all the pins have symbolic meaning, I've included this blurb specifically because these two pins are deeply rooted in my culture and I wanted to convey the intention of the designs to you, the viewer thank you if you've read this far!

在設計這些徽章的時候，我想到了自然、季節還有象徵動物在亞洲的文化中非常普遍。
這時彷彿有一個代表靈感的燈泡出現在我的腦海裡
每個徽章都帶有動物和花朵，以及我認為最適合作品整體主題和象徵意義的景色。
前四個徽章是季節相關的，分別是春、夏、秋、冬。
即便並不是指所有的動物，也有非常多都具有文化象徵的意義。例如月兔就是東方民間傳說中一個普遍的神話，起源於中國。
這些設計本身也是發想於中國和日本文化，因為它們是我(在東方文化裡)最熟悉的。
無論如何，我希望有一天能夠將這些設計擴展到其他文化中的動物及風景。

我想說明一下最後兩個徽章的設計理念！
在中國文化中，鳳與龍的搭配是婚姻的象徵，通常在婚禮裡面，他們的肖像會被刻在金手鐲上，並送給那對夫妻。
他們在一起便象徵著男女關係的陰(鳳)陽(龍)調和、善&惡……等。
在這些徽章裡面，我試圖以視覺效果和圖畫來描繪這種象徵性的關係。
火與水、暗與光、黑夜與白天、鳳凰上升而龍降落等。同樣的，花朵本身也是愛情與繁榮幸福的象徵。
我想表達的是，儘管所有徽章都有其象徵意義，我專門介紹了這對徽章，是因為它們在我的文化裡根深蒂固，因此我想向你們傳達我的設計理念。
