這是我讀的第一本Fredrik Backman的小說,他最有名的應該是有翻拍成電影的A Man Called Ove 明天,別再來敲門,我對他的Beartown 大熊魂系列也有些興趣,(但怕對運動題材會讓我比較難讀下去XD),總之,我覺得這本的premise滿吸引的,加上評價也很不錯,就決定來試試看我會不會喜歡Backman的文字。事實證明,我真的很愛Anxious People。
"The truth is that this was a story about many different thing, but most of all, about idiots. Because we're doing the best we can, we really are. (Ch.74)"
另外,這本有聲書意外地很不錯,(不是說本來不看好,只是這個故事出乎我預料適合聽有聲書XD),因為它寫得很有跟讀者對話的感覺,聽起來就特別有fu,朗讀者Marin Ireland(我之前才在Umbrella Academy S2看到的演員)也念得非常棒,儘管角色眾多,但她口吻語氣變化切換的很流暢,給每個角色獨特的個性。
"Do you know what the worst thing about being a parent is? That you're always judged by your worst moments. You can do a million things right, but if you do one single thing wrong, you're forever that parent..." (Ch.9)
They say that a person's personality is the sum of their experiences. But that isn't true, at least not entirely. Because if our past is all that defines us, we'd never be able to put up with ourselves. We need to be allowed to convince ourselves that we're more than the mistakes we made yesterday, that we're our next choices too, all of our tomorrows.

故事的主軸其實很簡單,開頭是一個非常失敗的銀行搶案,當搶匪慌慌張張地跑出銀行後,逃進了一間公開出售的公寓中,結果意外地挾持了正在裡面的八個人。
整本書書是由許多短的章節組成的,每個章節的視角/時間點都不同,一下子是警察詢問證人、下一章可能突然跳到10年前的某件事、接著又回到挾持現場。透過這樣不連續的敘述,讓讀者慢慢拼湊出整件事情的全貌,我很喜歡這樣的感覺,寫的方法也不會讓人產生錯亂,反而很有特色。
