Okay I kind of started talking about this a while back so let's go into a bit more detail about a video game pitch
Gabiluzbad
In this game, you are a rookie sci-fi park ranger
Gabiluzbad
On a distant alien world
Gabiluzbad
That contains a variety of magnificent and dangerous animals that are also full of a special substance only found on this planet
Gabiluzbad
That makes them super valuable to poachers
Gabiluzbad
The first arc of the game has you learning how to track them with a more veteran ranger
Gabiluzbad
You learn how to pay attention to how different kinds of animals behave
Gabiluzbad
How to read procedurally generated in game tracks
Gabiluzbad
From like broken twigs to droppings to actual footprints and such
Gabiluzbad
I think the tutorial has like a computer AR system that sort of gives you tips that your senpai advises you to not grow too reliant on
Gabiluzbad
You gotta learn how to do all this properly
Gabiluzbad
The second arc of the game is the big one in which a gang of poachers land on the planet
Gabiluzbad
And kill ranger senpai
Gabiluzbad
So now you're alone and you gotta protect all these animals and also your AR hint system is knocked out or at least severely weakened because the poachers blew up the comm satellite that lets you contact the rest of the universe
Gabiluzbad
So you also have to figure out how to get the word out that you need help
Gabiluzbad
Gameplay focuses on like
Gabiluzbad
learning about this ecosystem
Gabiluzbad
getting the animals to help you
Gabiluzbad
protecting them
Gabiluzbad
fighting off poachers
Gabiluzbad
Which, you notably don't have any lethal weapons on you
Gabiluzbad
I think it could be a cool game!
RobotApocalypse
i think it sounds neat! my first thought is the tracking system in Monster Hunter World but expanded into something way more in-depth
RobotApocalypse
where you actually have to pay attention with your eyes instead of having glowing bugs highlight everything important for you
Gabiluzbad
Plenty of games have had tracking mini games
Gabiluzbad
In this it’s a tracking game first
Gabiluzbad
(A tracking game with a combat mini game tacked on)
RobotApocalypse
yeah in MHW it's an integral aspect of the game but it's still just a stepping stone to get to the actual gameplay. a game where the tracking is the core mechanic has a lot of promise as a concept, i think!
RobotApocalypse
imagine having to learn how to track the poachers during the second arc of the game
Gabiluzbad
Yeah!
RobotApocalypse
without any of your AI or senpai assistance, you have to figure out how to tell the difference between when a large animal has crashed through the underbrush and when a person did
Gabiluzbad
Spend a lot of the game tagging the beasts
Gabiluzbad
Tags don’t tell you where they are without your satellite backup but they can warn you when one of them is in trouble
Gabiluzbad
So you can go to their habitat and try to figure out what happened to them
Gabiluzbad
And like rescue them from a poacher cage or get them medicine because they’re sick or
Gabiluzbad
You know
Gabiluzbad
Generally intervene
RobotApocalypse
ooh that's good, i like that
RobotApocalypse
basically tagged animals acting as your quest pings
"Specimen-893 is in distress, go figure out what's wrong!"
RobotApocalypse
maybe let the player tie a nickname to each tag if they want to, so they get extra invested in each animal they have tagged
Lightning Bolt
yessss animal nicknames
Lightning Bolt
I probably wouldn't play this but I'd definitely watch an LP
Gabiluzbad
Definitely give them customizable nicknames, yeah
