I dreamed I was doing outdoor theater and all at once, the audience got up and left. En masse. I tried to shout that it wasn't over, but no one could hear me (despite you know... training in outdoor theater without a mic).

I don't know whether to interpret this literally or figuratively w.r.t. my life/mental state.

It was part of the show and, in an effort to maintain authenticity, the director left you in the dark.

I mean, I am making plans to do a crazy thing, which could get borked in a million different ways. so that checks out. What's funny is it's ALSO potentially literally a theater anxiety dream.

Dreams are random and can’t really be read to mean big things, IMO. You want to do theater, you can’t do theater right now and your brain made up an alternative reason why the show couldn’t go on.

Oh I know.

I dont' put any stock in them at all.

I just think it's funny that it could go either way.
