Plurk Opinion. You have a doctor, and he's the first doctor you've had in a long time that you felt "knows" you, he does a good job getting you well when you're sick but you are sometimes "?" when it comes to some things - such as long term stuff like diabetes that he doesn't seem to be aggressive about. But, all in all, you like him and you feel ok about

NewYearSameMe
your relationship with him - and it's HARD to find a true family style doctor who knows you and your kids and stuff so, you not only really like him and feel comfortable going to him BUT you recommend him to people.

NewYearSameMe
NOW consider two other things.

NewYearSameMe
1. His staff does not like him at all. One of them once said he'd make a good field medic to patch you up and send you on alive till a real doc could get to you (said to our hubs).

NewYearSameMe
2. He told you he likes Trump and thinks he's doing a great job AND thinks he tells the truth about things.

NewYearSameMe
Is it even remotely possible that someone who has that level of ignorance is remotely a good doctor? Would you keep going if you heard that, knowing your health and your long term illness maintenance is in his hangds?

NewYearSameMe
hands*

Gogo ♔
Nope. He’s probably not wearing mask or practicing hygiene.

Gogo ♔
And doctors nowadays do the damn bare minimum. You need one to follow up with you continually about your diabetes, someone that cares.

NewYearSameMe
Originally when the virus kicked off he blew it off. That was really weird to us. He IS wearing a mask now but .....I am concerned

Whiskey
Gah. That's really tough. Finding a good doc is HARD. But I'd have to look for a new one, myself. Also, I feel like being aggressive about diabetes is kinda important. I don't want a doc who brushes off serious health concerns.

Gogo ♔
it’s OK to have many doctors

Whiskey
I love my doctor, but I have to push for her to go deeper into issues. Once I do, she does. But I worry if I had serious health issues, she wouldn't catch them. Docs just don't have time for real care anymore. So I just know I have to advocate for myself.

/usr/sbin/ennui
yeah, it's important to have a doctor who is agressive and diligent about chronic conditions.

/usr/sbin/ennui
also a doc who blew covid off when it started? huge red flag.

Whiskey
Yeah and the Trump thing makes me feel like how can you trust his judgement in other areas?

✨Skye
I think I'd start looking around for a new one, myself. The whole Trump thing...and if his staff hates him? That's a massive red flag for me.

/usr/sbin/ennui
friend of mine is a surgeon (works in a hospital) and he was warning us to take covid-19 very seriously back in february, weeks before it actually became an issue in germany.

isle
If you can talk to him and help steer your health care in areas that he isn't as aggressive, like diabetes, and if it's hard to find someone else who fills in all the other boxes, I'd still keep him... but that's me, who doesnt have a current Dr and knows how hard it can be to find one. Finding a new one can be pretty hard.

/usr/sbin/ennui
finding a new doctor is the worst

isle
If he sees you and your family and you can use him for what you need, and you have confidence in him, his politics can be secondary as long as you feel taken care of well enough. Confidence in him is the key.

NewYearSameMe
Would you diagnose someone as diabetic and give them pills and send them on their way with no education about blood sugar management?

NewYearSameMe
That’s the kinda shit I’m talking about that has given me pause and now this trump thing

NewYearSameMe
It really is the measure of intelligence ....

isle
NewYearSameMe
: absolutely not, unless during discussion they assumed you had that under control

isle
If you have doubts, your answer is right there.

isle
If you have enough doubts, and access to other choices, look around.

isle
Again, this is coming from my experience, I'd take a talking bobblehead car accessory as a Dr if I could get it to write a scrip that I told it I needed.

isle
Mostly how I deal with Drs here, except that one excellent one that finally started helping my issues that I saw once then never again. The Unicorn Dr. I hope she was real.

isle
Maybe staying with this Dr is keeping you from finding your Unicorn.

NewYearSameMe
I mean obviously we have the ability to find a new one I just am so mad at him for being this terrible person ugh

Little Sunshine
Honestly, ive met some people who I cant believe are Trump supporters. I have had the same thoughts, how can this person have any sort of sense if they support that psycho. I think you have to consider a few things when it comes to that. One, the people around them. The people around him may be giving him alot of influence. That plays a big big factor.

Little Sunshine
Its also possible he zoning out the bad. Maybe he has heard so much good that the bad is easy to over look.

Little Sunshine
Now Trumps bad stuff is BAD. But imagine that him and his family are Fox news fans. They buffer it all to look good

isle
I'd base my decision on the care you receive and if you feel it is good enough, or if the casualness over the diabetes/covid is concerning enough to make you doubt his level of care.

Little Sunshine
I think its important to remember, that not all Trump supporters are bad. Not all of them are conspiracy, bigot racists.

Little Sunshine
and I agree with
isle
base your decision on the care you receive. Thats all that matters.

Gay Natalie 🌈
As much as I detest MAGA morons, if his political beliefs aren’t impeding or impacting you and your family’s health then stick with good treatment. If his warped Trumpisms are affecting you health wise too, time to move on.

NewYearSameMe
Is it possible for someone who doesn’t believe Trump is a liar to actually have t he intelligence to doctor? How can a truly intelligent person believe that?

🔹nkaru🔹
Has he ever made a recommendation that you see an endo? Is there another MD in the practice who has an interest in diabetes? But for me the big red flag is his staff’s opinion of him. If that is more than just a disgruntled employee, if most of them regard him as a doctor that’s good in a pinch, but not for ongoing care, then maybe it’s time to look around.

isle
NewYearSameMe
: I know someone who knows that trump is a horrid liar and mostly incompetent but still believes in certain Republican policies over the liberal counterparts, so they still support the current admin. Also there is heavy spin on both political ends, so depending on your leaning, it's easy to see and accept what props up your own beliefs.

🔹nkaru🔹
Put the politics aside, if you can, and make the best medical decision for you and your family. That being said, if the politics makes you not -like- the guy, that's valid - you should like your doctor. And it may be time that you and the older kids should look to moving to an internist rather than a family doctor practice.

NewYearSameMe
He really is an internist but now I question his intelligence severely

🔹nkaru🔹
Sounds like it is time to move on. Also, although I liked the male doctors I had, since making the decision to have a female doctor I have felt much more a partner in my care.

Whiskey
^ I agree with this 100%.

Roman Noodles
Bitch, you stole my plurk! I'm gonna cut you!

NewYearSameMe
You had all night

NewYearSameMe
Plurk it time your TL let’s compare notes

Roman Noodles
Sharpening my knife . . .

🏳️🌈Orlando
Being casual about diabetes is a huge flag. I ended up diabetic from taking a lot of prednisone and my pcp has been on it aggressively. That can really effect you poorly in so many ways. I would find someone else.

OhCecilia
Honestly, I'd see an endo to treat the diabetes if you're that reluctant to leave the dr. Kind of solves both problems at once
🔹nkaru🔹
: made a good suggestion with that.

Roman Noodles
We both prefer male doctors. But my rheumatologist is a lady.

Allegory
NewYearSameMe
: it is possible for people to have blind spots. that's a HUGE blind spot though. if i were you, i'd be kiiiinda shopping around for a new doctor, but finding someone who's decent at all for the general stuff is HARD, and you've got complicated needs with all the members of your family. you definitely need to use him as a jumping off point for some

Allegory
conditions like the diabetes- like, ok, he can diagnose the chronic condition, time to go to opinion 2/a specialist immediately after any diagnosis to find out what you should REALLY be doing. he's a triage doc as his staff says- he can figure out a thing but he just gives a band aid, doesn't dig any deeper than diagnosis.

Roman Noodles
Did I mention he called me a libtard?

NewYearSameMe
Roman Noodles
: i'm so done with him man.

Whiskey
Roman Noodles
: wait. Your doctor did?!

NewYearSameMe
Yes he did he tells me now

Whiskey
Oh no. Nope. Buh bye.

NewYearSameMe
Step one find an endocrinologist for both of us to manage long term stuff and keep this guy for antibiotics

NewYearSameMe
Phase two find an internist

Whiskey
I’m sorry. It’s difficult I know. Can you ask friends for recommendations?

Allegory
ok, i take all of it back. if he can't keep that shit out of his dealings with his patients, fuck him, find someone new, period.

Raynee
THAT is a bad doctor.

Roman Noodles
He did it in a fun way. We have a really good rapport, actually. I think I told him to fuck off. I just wanted to see the plurk monster rear up and bite. You guys are easy. I was offended, however.
