Probably something related to COPPA and assuming only kids would want to watch "kid's content"

actually if it's based on gathering data then wouldn't just WATCHING videos for kids be inherently data-gathery

iirc it has to do with tying the data gathering to a specific account? i think they can gather general data like number of views on a video, but they can't collect data on which accounts those views came from

it clearly does, though, on account of they show up on my watch history

that's my understanding of COPPA anyway. i think they chose to segregate it by whether the video is for kids or not because FOR SOME REASON the law's written in such a way that if someone lies about their age it's still your fault

it's probably really patchwork how they deal with it

yeah if adding to playlists is disabled on the video page itself but not the search page then that suggests they didn't necessarily entirely think things through
