part of me thinks he looked at Artemis Fowl and saw all the toilet humor and decided he was above it

well, Mulch Diggums is the most accurate thing in the whole movie

but wanting to make the movie short + cut out any of the edgy bits to make it more broadly appealing definitely seems to be the case here
