TIL that Nora suffers from intense anxiety that has been masked by how much of a routine my life is. I was not sleeping well last night, so at 3 AM I got up and worked on some writing. I sat at the desk in the kitchen because the living room was too hot. This was completely new to her and she freaked out.

She howled. She jumped up to see what I was doing, saw it was boring, jumped down, howled, jumped up to see what I was doing, it was boring, jumped down, over and over and over. I gave up and moved to the too hot living room to finish what I was doing so she would calm down enough for me to actually accomplish anything.

Then she was completely fine. I was where I belonged, so she went to the bedroom to sleep.

Routine is the most important part of calm for my dogger, too. As soon as something doesn't fit into the routine, he gets nervous and upset. I've started closing the door to the hallway, so the A/C doesn't kick on as much, and that's bugging the hell out of him. He wants free passage into the back rooms. It doesn't matter that he has two beds in here.

I think the only part of routine that my furballs care about is feeding time. They know when that is and potentially come bug me around then, lol. Other than that, they just want to hang out close by, whatever room that may be (it's generally the living room but they'll simply follow, either literally at our heels, or within a couple mins, if elsewhere).
