[meme] Character dads?
The Write Stuff
Asuna's relationship with her father is kind of... not touched on, other than the fact he's worried about her.
The Write Stuff
One of my head canons for RP and Reconfiguration is that Asuna struggles with expressing her emotions because her family is very buttoned up and remain stoic in the face of adversity.
The Write Stuff
On the other hand, she was very close with her grandparents and I actually have a scene in Reconfiguration between her and her grandfather that I really like.

We really don't anything about Lena's parents in Overwatch. I like to think she probably had a good relationship with them...?
The Write Stuff
For Path characters... it's confusing since the vast majority of the characters were created and raised in a lab. So there are more father figures than anything else.
The Write Stuff
But before I launch into that... if we're counting father figures, I think Lena looks to Soldier 76 as one, for sure.
The Write Stuff
Okay, so... Path characters.

Owen doesn't really have a father figure at all. The closest thing he has to any kind of parental influence was his tutor, who he was really close with. She gave him his scarf, which is his most prized possession.

Pandora refers to the lead scientst in her project as Father, and they have a very convoluted relationship, some of which is pretty spoilery. He cares deeply for her but is also deeply resentful of what she is.
The Write Stuff
He's very strict and emotionally unavailable, but will often display other acts of kindness via the other researchers.
The Write Stuff
Jade/Soteria has a close relationship with the boss of her organization as he practically raised her, but it's only surface deep. He lets her get whatever she wants but there's no strong emotional component to their relationship.
The Write Stuff
Kimber was raised by the great Emejre teacher Bede. He's regarded as a stoic philosopher and deified by his people. Kimber knows he told horrible dad jokes, gave them all cake for breakfast and loved them all deeply.
The Write Stuff
Telara's the last of the big five, and she's another Emejre who had a close relationship with a scientist who raised her. Dr. Richards was an ally to the Emejre in the Revolution, and Telara inherited his sarcasm and southern drawl, to the chagrin of her teachers.
The Write Stuff
Dr. Richards died during the Emejre Liberation and Telara visits his tribute tree often.
The Write Stuff
(It's Emejre traditional to plant a tree for those you've lost and make sure it prospers. The idea is to replace a life lost with new life. It's something I'm still developing that's a big plot point in the book.)
