My hair cutter is an expert, and a friend. His salon is in an old mansion downtown. There's always been a pleasant clutter, a bowl of jellybeans, a kitchen I could rummage in for a snack, hugs goodbye. Well.

I went for the first time in 3 or 4 months today. He took my temperature at the door, and asked me to wash my hands. The salon was as sterile as an operating room, the jellybeans were gone of course, and the hugs were from a 10 foot distance.

It was great to see him, and to come home with fluffy hair, but it's another thing to look forward to returning to normal some day. BTW, I wrote him a check for two cut's worth - he's lost money the past few months too. So, it was safe, I look better, and soneday we'll hug again.

These are odd times.
