[Work]: I am wondering what the angle my manager is coming from but I am drawing a blank. And usually, we are on the same page. Usually.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
Okay, so a few weeks ago, they had a position open up for Senior Teacher. I gave it a shot, didn't get it. But was later told I was a close second and they had to extend the decision deadline because they were conflicted about the choice.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
Which, honestly, shocks me
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
The person they did pick was The Right Choice.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
He was previously someone who was very vocal about complaining and only doing what he wanted to do, not necessarily what was asked of him.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
And suddenly, he's silent. Not a peep of negativity. He's suddenly helpful and willing and bends backwards to do what's asked
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
He was The Right Choice because they silenced their biggest critic and made him helpful when previously he was satisfied to only help himself.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
I'm not even mad, because it's clever and frankly, I would've made the same decision. Will this new attitude last? Idk. We'll see.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
So to more recent news, I had my ~one year review~ today and it went well.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
But there are two things that have left me wondering.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
One. My manager told me there's going to be a Team Manager (his current position) position available in October when we're predicted to get new teachers in - and the country finally reopens
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
He always tells people to go for it, even if they aren't qualified or it's a field and a half of a stretch. Because it's a free feedback session and it gives you a direction to focus on next
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
More so, second pick will often be given the second place position and some ~consolation prizes~
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
My consolation prize for not getting Senior was a budget for my pet project, and permission to do the mandatory training sessions I've been gunning to help with for the last 8 months. Honestly, the consolation prize is better than getting the position
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
So in a very roundabout way whoever doesn't get TM will get ST, because the TM position will likely go to a current ST
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
So that part I sort of get, though I don't like it over much
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
The other bit, the REAL bit that's weird to me
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
Is during our conversation my manager was asking me how I plan, how I organize. He wanted me to consider a development plan and I turned it down because I have that all really sorted out as step 1, 2, 3.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
But this is the 3rd time he's asked about how I plan and organize
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
So I can't tell if he is amazed by my organizational skills or worried about them or testing to see if I can actually organize as I claim to
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
I'm not ambitious but I am insanely aggressive when I set my mind to it. And I think because there is a lack of ambition yet a ton of aggression, people get confused
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
I have a goal in mind, it just isn't the top of any food chain. It's just from an angle that's ideal for me. Again, I think that really confuses people
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
Why don't you want more money?
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
... I'm a teacher. Nothing about this career says cha-ching
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
If I did care about that sort of thing, I would have gone into interpreting
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
BUT THAT'S STILL... difficult for them to understand? Lol. Most don't do this job because they wanted to, it's because there's nothing for them back home or they just graduated and want ~adventure~ but suck too much to get into JET
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
We have a looooooot of JET rejects
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
Anyway. I just don't know what to make of this. I also have a lot on my mind and thus my brain is hyperfocusing on one dumb thing
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
My current to-do list for work is insane. I have to admit. It's an index card pinned to my desk and it's going to become two unless I get it under control. Currently, it has 2 months of projects, training, and my certification course's workload listed
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
Honestly, maybe that's why. It looks insane if you only go by the index card and likely cause for concern but
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
ANYWAY
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)
Alexceptional
I'll stop the ramble
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7713372-medium20.gif)

weird about the first choice guy. maybe he realized he better not rock the boat if he wants to keep his job?
