thinkin bout that Remake ending again (spoilers obvs)
skerple
I don't think I have any real fresh insights, I just
skerple
this is maximum Nomura bullshit, and it is perhaps the most appropriate thing possible
skerple
I mentioned in one of my liveplurks how I really liked the sense I was getting, that Remake is engaged in a conversation with the source material
skerple
which, any remake or adaptation is going to be
skerple
but I got that feeling especially strongly from this game?
skerple
just in what it chooses to focus on, what gets expanded, what gets changed
skerple
and the implication that Aerith already knows/remembers how things go really enhances that sense
skerple
because she's right there with us, experiencing all of these things anew
skerple
delighted when we're delighted, upset when we're upset
skerple
and of course this idea really reaches fucking apotheosis in the Remake endgame where you're literally fighting fate and the future-shadows of the Advent Children antagonists
skerple
I still don't know what the fuck is going on with Zack, if that's an alt timeline we brushed up against by murdering destiny or if we sent changes rippling back in time or WHAT, but I'm excited to find out
skerple
Aerith dying and Zack dying are probably the top two things FF7 fans would like to have the chance to change so I do feel pretty strongly that we'll have the chance to make that stick
skerple
I'm with pretty much everyone else on the "saving Aerith would be the boldest writing choice just because it's so ingrained that she dies" train
skerple
the fact that Literally Everyone both wants this and has called it does not, I think, make it less likely to happen
skerple
because committing to this Fuck Destiny idea as hard as they did in that endgame, only to then kill Aerith anyway, would be the biggest downer in the history of videogame downers
skerple
I'm sure they could justify it!! I would even accept it!! nomura would just have to meet me in the pit, that's all
skerple
anyway
skerple
I'm definitely all in on the theory that post-AC Aerith and Sephiroth have somehow time traveled back to the OG and that's why there's so much Sephiroth in the early game this time
skerple
and Aerith, trying to keep him from fucking shit up, is presented with the intriguing and terrifying possibility of changing fate for everybody's benefit including hers
skerple
it makes for this fantastic story where the core conflict is actually Aerith vs. Sephiroth, playing out against a backdrop of events that have already happened but are Different This Time
skerple
and it doesn't even lessen Cloud's journey, because he's still having to do the hard work of learning how to people again and preparing to submit to the mortifying ordeal of being known
skerple
and Sephiroth is absolutely still representative of Cloud's trauma that he has to overcome
sᴘᴇᴇᴅ 🏍️ ᴅᴇᴍᴏɴ
post traumatic sephiroth disorder
skerple
it's just that breaking free of destiny has potentially positioned Aerith to more effectively and directly oppose him in his aspect of "eschatological villain", while continuing to support Cloud as he opposes him in his aspect of "Cloud Strife's personal tragedy"
skerple
jdfhgjksdhf yes
skerple
god. how long until part 2. i need it.
sᴘᴇᴇᴅ 🏍️ ᴅᴇᴍᴏɴ
right???
sᴘᴇᴇᴅ 🏍️ ᴅᴇᴍᴏɴ
(esp for playable red maybe?? square please...)
And I`m BooV
I think they've confirmed that Red will be playable next part! There's the building blocks for it if you hack into part 1's files at least so it'd be weird for them not to implement it in the next one
skerple
yeah I think he was probably only not playable because you get him so late
