I think it'd be taste for any AU, taste and smell are the most practical to lose in terms of interacting with the world

it goes from "not being strong enough to protect desdemona" to various petty things to "not being strong enough to protect desdemona" and then there's stiff competition rising up as a leviathan army rises up across the land. his feelings on vincent at the time are going every which way to the point that he doesn't know exactly what he'd regret
