which is to say he is a giant extrovert who has been kept in solitary confinement for extremely long periods of time and LOVES people, loves NEW people!!!!! but also he is a gaming and strategy NERD with paranoid social training and history

so with some frequency he likes to just SEE what someone else's opening move is, without him cueing this or that

but he'll also start in with particular outrageous lines sometimes to see what the reaction to them is

so he is flexible with this

Jedao has spent several months studying between 8 and 15 hours a day, and he has driven himself into some moderately severe mental health distress over it, AND, like, for the record, everyone in his home universe who specializes in brain stuff is super duper evil and Jedao has been on the pointy end of that for years at a time

his starting associations were Not Good

Things Jedao is willing to do for friends and family in absurd abundance: work, suffer, think very thoughtfully about what they need/want and make it happen

Things Jedao is historically not willing to do: alter the inexorable meat grinder of his plans to fix a very broken world

and, honestly, if he thought he had to live in a world as broken as the hexarchate again, he would never have allowed himself to have the close bonds that he does on the barge

Jedao's problem is not that he """"needs to learn to find a third way""" - he tried very hard

Jedao's problem is that his universe was fundamentally bad and very strong, old, smart, and powerful forces were keen on keeping it that way

anyway that's not what this question was about but I love him a lot

(also, relevant to the barge, refraining from violence after someone he loves is hurt is one of the very big things he is willing to do for them)

by the time you are like 40 items into his search history, you may notice that stringing together page titles results in the lyrics of the space equivalent of getting rickrolled

he's a professional spy and he does not leave traces of the things he is actually interested in, namely: the banned history of his space empire, confidential information on barbarian cultures, Math Tricks For People Who Are Shit At Math, and kinky porn with really cliched/cheesy noncon scenarios

plus lots of research on like, literally everyone he meets
