Brought to you by I can't lay on my right side, but chest is weird with giant boobs and "... Do I have to work harder to breathe because of my boobs?" Answer = yes
I'm kind of angry about it because if I didn't have cfids it wouldn't matter, and I don't want all my life to be based around it, but that's pretty irrational
like, for one thing, we cover a fraction of WHO's budget, and as per usual with our international commitments we're way behind on actually paying... and as an utterly toothless organization that depends 100% on goodwill to garner cooperation, sucking cocks is literally the only way WHO can accomplish anything if that's what a country demands
so if China says "tell everyone how great we're doing or you can get information on this disease when it starts hitting Europe," the WHO has a pretty straightforward choice to make
yes it's not great but 1. what exactly the fuck else were you expecting, and 2. how exactly the fuck is pretending it's an evil conspiracy and not business as usual actually going to help make business as usual better
1) Trusting the numbers 2) not having the officials anywhere near Wuhan and straight up spreading misinformation FRANKLY DELIBERATELY 3) ignoring the condemnation from HK, Taiwan, and again, SPREADING FALSE NUMBERS 4) insisting it wasn't a pandemic and that they CHANGED the pandemic definition (????) 5) Tedros was literally hired for this 6) Not pressuring
other countries to take preventive measures despite the CLEAR whistleblower EVIDENCE out of China, the cruise ships, and anywhere near China (Japan etc.)
I'm angry at Tedros, I'm not saying "yes let's not fund the WHO" or that it's ~~~~ a global conspiracy of special significance rather than run of the mill corruption~~~~
I mean saying "economic pressure on WHO" is all well and good except that they're not a trade partner, they're an international body we barely bother to underpay as it is, and I'm not sure WHO pissing off China would have helped or that it would now >_>
yell at the UN about WHO not having enforcement teeth I guess would make more sense except that none of the UN has enforcement teeth except with countries too small to do anything about it
yeah but for example if your job is "get Trump to cooperate with you when you have no authority to force him to and can only ask nicely" is going to involve a lot of ass-kissing and refusal to acknowledge his errors or else he'll stonewall you just to make a point as we know from watching the news
I get the feeling there's a spectrum of bad choices and WHO made some set of them, which, yes, 100% notice the bad choices, but I'm doubtful that "no bad choices" is an option and I'm not sure how narrow the "least-bad" path is
once one player in the prisoner's dilemma starts being unnecessarily dickish, everyone else gets paranoid and starts making statistically self-destructive choices because trust is a fragile thing and everybody wants to be the top crab in the bucket
individuals gonna be fuckups, and yes, we all collectively fuckup, but we can do better, we GRADUALLY HAVE BEEN DOING BETTER, I believe we can REACH a better point of non-bucket crab-dom
So do better than them. Get other people to be inspired to plant more trees than they can destroy, get local governments to block them from it, or make it more costly to do than is worth it. A Billion Begins with One
I mean abstractly, intellectually, yeah, I know, struggle endlessly to do a good thing and maybe it will have some lasting impact. Statistically, some of them will. Just like I know abstractly that doing everything confidently is more effective than doing everything anxiously, and not being depressed is better than being depressed, etc.
But "throw yourself on the altar of statistics--it probably won't really matter, but statistically it definitely will very slightly!" doesn't feel super motivating.
Don't beat yourself up, don't hate yourself for feeling like you're drowning in quicksand, AND REACH OUT HANDS AND ASK FOR HELP -- I can SAY all those things, and I know FROM EXPERIENCE that doing it is still a lot harder
I'll make you a bet. If there's no afterlife, nothing happens, so the bet is moot. But if you're right (and there is an afterlife though) you can take me to task and put me on a mission/goal/adventure of your choosing. If I'm right and you change humanity more than you ever expected/thought possible, we get to go see the effects in action and I will enjoy
Bummer. A new reason for Whatson to hate this, breast reductions are increasing globally
"We don't really want people to die, we're just enjoying it ironically."

also lbr ignoring HK and Taiwan is not a WHO specialtythat is basically everyone who isn't trying to start a war with ChinaI mean I won't, but that is the most feels part of that episode
