Good news! The IRS has succumbed to pressure and will also send checks automatically to SSI recipients. They were going to make the poorest of the poor jump through hoops, but now they will do it automatically.

The Democrats have a proposal on the table to give people $500 for older dependents, too. I hope that goes through, as it would be nice to get money for the 17yo.

ugh they are still making it super unclear weither i need to file taxes or some other junk in order to receive a check... i still can't find out if i am even eligible or not
Nimil
i'm just a housewife, i have no income of my own, ben pays for everything in the house, he didn't claim me as a dependant because we didn't know he could, i haven't filed taxes in years, i don't get any disability or ssi

If you don’t file taxes, even with 0 income, they don’t know anything about you to send a check, and definitely not direct deposit

You need to file for you. You can, I think, use freefile at the IRS site

i've filed taxes before just not since 2012 when i became a house mom lol
Nimil
so they will send you a check if you don't have a bank account?
Nimil
the part that trips me up is "You can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return." technically i CAN be claimed on ben's taxes, however we didn't know that unmarried couples could do that so we never did. it says can not has been claimed so i wonder if that means i'm out
Nimil
i just found out he could claim me as a dependant last month after he filed his taxes, we'd always thought that was for married only but found out the law allows for unmarried as well if both live in the same home

You're not claimed, just file.
