I don't kill all bugs but I have two policies when I do. 1 - I try not to make them suffer and I wish each one good luck in its next life. I insist my kids do too. One of my weird house rules. 2 - if a bug escapes my wrath three times I let it go. I figure it earned it.
We have black widows and brown recluses. They kill people and must die. I also hate wolf and wood and black jumping spiders because they are scary. Every spider bites Miles so I generally kill all but the smallest.
You have a good soul. I usually feel that too, except now I'm feeling guilty about all those fruit flies. I am not compassionate to fruit flies and that is wrong.
I will try to save most bugs, but there are some that earn my wrath. Cockroaches, mosquitoes (I'm allergic), fire ants (same), and wasps when they sting me for no apparent reason.
Fruit flies must die! Mosquitos are the most dangerous creatures on earth and cockroaches spread disease. I leave ladybugs alone and silverfish. Silverfish eat mold and we have a lot. And they've been around a few hundred million years - they probably earned it.
Yeah fruit flies, MOSQUITOS! and cockroaches.. I almost forgot about them. I had them when I lived in Toronto and hope to never see one again in RL. Horrid fuckers. That was a constant battle.. apt buildings in the city, almost impossible to avoid.
I kill mosquitoes and any kind of fly - sorry but they are irritating gross little bacteria spreaders and I have no remorse about them, and also the moths & carpetbugs that try to infest us because, they are neverending pests otherwise that get in everything and try to destroy stuff. Pretty much anything else is safe, and all spiders are caught & relocated
I’m a coaxer. If I can’t coax, it’s a glass and piece of paper trap. I will do that with cockroaches. Just a few minutes ago I got a hornet out on a duster. And I have a dog who likes to chase bugs. I’ll leave those to her.
I go after mosquitos in a big way. I’m highly allergic. Spiders it depends on my mood. I try to just put them outside. They help kill mosquitos. When I lived in NYC I saw cockroaches the size of mice. They are gross and they will survive nuclear winter. Fortunately I haven’t seen any here.
II get a spider or two in here every now and then and usually leave them be because they get rid of the teensy tiny little gnats that sometime get inside.. There are very few flying insects around my neighborhood anyway because there are quite a few bats around.
Oh I will leave spiders that make themselves at home in a nice corner somewhere. It's when they're roaming around that they're a NOPE and set free XD also, if they get too large hahaha.
We have brown recluse and black widows that must die. Mosquitos, fruit flies, and roaches as well, they die. Other spiders and bugs are okay, as long as they don't crawl ON me. Oh, and bed bugs... those fuckers can burn in hell. I've seen what they can do to people and their stuff, and how hard they are to get rid of.
Fruit Flies, carpet bugs, mosquitoes, and sugar ants all won't make it out of this house. Well sugar ants are impossible to kill all of them but I try. But all other bugs get shooed out of the house. Spiders I mostly leave alone unless they scare me in the shower, then I'm sorry but they must die. I've rescued 3 bumble bees from my basement this year so far
I think one didn't make it since we saw it crawling around outside forever, I don't think it had the wing strength. We also get a lot of ladybugs inside on one side of the house. Oh, wasps, those I don't like either and I won't try to catch those.
We only have black widow spiders and those are web based and easy to identify, I've never seen any inside except in cases of old garages and semi-abandoned spaces.
Just Gravy
: taking any kind of life deliberately, especially when they are just doing what they are biologically driven to do is always worth empathy, and I think you are pretty wonderful.
I have a deal with most bugs. If they’re outdoors that’s their space. If they’re indoors then it’s my space. Then they need to stay out of my way or they face certain death. That’s the rules.
When I lived in NYC I saw cockroaches the size of mice. They are gross and they will survive nuclear winter. Fortunately I haven’t seen any here.
