[Gaming] Now that its a day later and Ive had some time to think...my thoughts about A Hat in Time, as thats what Ive been using to take a poke-break with (Warning: Kinda ranty)

The base game is phenomenal, along with the story DLC (note: STORY. Ill get to the rest later)

The characters are fun and more nuanced than you might initially think

the level design is spot-on in what it sks of the player and slowly ramping such up

there are some framerate hiccups and camera issues that I DONT think exist in the PC version that Ive seen??? (This is the Switch version BTW)

and usually any frustration Ive had during the main parts of the game can be chalked up to me playing like a blind drunk, who's upside down in a tilt-a-whirl

The challenge DLC (the second half of Seal the Deal) is...not too well thought out

there are some challenges that are fun and smart (having to maintain your body temperature during a lava segment, limited jumps during certain scenarios, etc)

and the community-made rift levels (that Ive found and played) are damn good

THE OTHER 60% of them are arduous, and either simply beyond my skill level...or are next to impossible to pull off

there is a mechanic, that allows you to lower the difficulty slightly....but as you go on, that effect seems to...not happen as apparently as it did in earlier parts?

like...some speedruns or the aforementioned limited jumps increase your time/limit or the EX bosses give you some health regen

the one that made me ragequit...only took out a smattering of enemies, while doing little to nothing on the main gimmick of the challenge (which was speeding up the windmill part of Alpine Skyline)

like...I get it: im supposed to deal with the added speed of the moving platforms. The challenge said NOTHING about the added walls and extra moving parts id have to deal weith

not to mention the ....strange checkpointing when you take a fall hit

I was up past a certain point...and it somehow sent me back 3 checkpoints when I fell and took damage

theres also one where you have to complete timepieces in the base base WITHOUT jumping

one REQUIRED one for this seems to only be doable with frame-perfect manipulation of the hat powers to get you up ledges you other wise HAVE to jump up

meanwhile the level is exploding behind you, so you have to figure this out under pressure

and this one doesnt seem to get the benefit of the 'make-it-easier' mode

Though, shoutout to the guy who plays Snatcher for this: you sir, make me HATE that character for all the right reasons :-P
