Should I have set this plurk up way before planning on using it? PROBABLY. But heyo friends, this is journeys a.k.a. journeys, setting this up to gush about the Washington Metro Gamer Symphony Orchestra (or WMGSO as I'll always call it) i.e. my nerd orchestra!

The plan: Post images from rehearsals, talk about our season and what goes into it, not make people on my timeline roll my eyes and go "dude that's the only thing you talk about any more."
The hope: PEOPLE TELL ME WHAT'S GOOD

Also a place to post cool things for replurking purposes, bc WMGSO is really cool (not that I'm biased or anything) and I know how wide the DWRP scene reaches c: I honestly think that it's a thing that a lot of people would be interested by, so HERE WE GO--

WMGSO is a nonprofit symphony orchestra based just outside of Washington, DC. We take music from video games of all sorts and turn (or transcribe) them into full-fledged orchestrations that capture the scale and depth of the genre.

Some seasons, like the one we just finished, include a lot of well-known games such as Final Fantasy, World of Warcraft, Katamari, Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and the like.

But we'll also play more niche music, from new or cult games such as Celeste, Dwarf Fortress, Kerbal Space Program, Planetary Annihilation, or (this season) yet-to-be-released, Kharon's Crypt!

A large portion of our music is arranged in-house by members of the orchestra who are doing this solely for love of the game and the music, and we do a lot of work to try and give back to the community through initiatives to get kids involved in music (we did a "petting zoo" type event at a library recently where kids could learn about and try instruments!)

or by raising money for other causes, such as Extra Life, which raises money for children's hospitals.
