It's an old car. The alternator crapped out. The battery is bad. The cooling system is bad. The breaks need replaced. There's a bunch of stuff wrong with it. Parts are hard to find. I think this is the end for this car.

The mechanic charged the battery enough for us to drive it home, but yeah that's pretty much it for the car. The alternator can't function on it's own without draining the battery to run.

An alternator is actually something that most mortal humans can do with a few of the right tools (wrenches) and not a lot in the way of technical know how, it's typically at the top of your car or top/front so you don't need a jack/stand to raise the car. The part is like $80-$100. If you have a socket wrench and want to try, that could solve a lot!

There's just so many different things wrong with the car that we may just cut our losses. We're going to discuss options over the weekend.

That would solve the running problem on the car for sure, brakes are more involved without experience.

Hugsssss I work for one of the big 3 here in Detroit. Cars are our life, and I'm very sorry to hear your Nissan is down. They take a lot of care and upkeep and if it's time, maybe you're right. The sad thing is a lot of the dealers do good work but it's not a bargain.

the average lifespan of a car nowadays is around 11 years. So it sounds like you may be at that point. If you're at like 150K+ it's lived a pretty good life 200+ is totally possible but requires a lot of TLC. Hopes you can fix or replace it without too much trouble
