It's interesting how there's this culturally agreed-upon image of the Slasher Killer who wears a hockey mask and carries a chainsaw
Quinneapolis
who you see in a lot of parodies
Quinneapolis
Quinneapolis
and it's interesting because that's a fusion of two completely different slasher villains
Quinneapolis
Jason had a hockey mask but fought with a machete
Quinneapolis
Leatherface fought with a chainsaw but wore a human face as a mask
Rabbit Crimes
the most fascinating part of it to me is that it's two different slasher iconographies that manage to be visually recognizable and very generic at the same time, and I'm not sure what other slashers have traits or tools like that
Rabbit Crimes
Ghostface is probably the closest, but that's only in the sense that the mask was a preexisting thing separate from the invention of the killer - the mask itself is firmly culturally associated with the movies now
Quinneapolis
Freddy Kreuger has the finger knives
Quinneapolis
but they're very specific
Rabbit Crimes
exactly
Rabbit Crimes
and then most slashers stick to knives, which tip over into too generic
Gabiluzbad
Any idiot can get a knife
Quinneapolis
I guess the big takeaways is that the character design of Jason and Leatherface is brilliantly done
Quinneapolis
I'd actually argue a third one, from outside of America
