Gawain: Eh? Nobody does that? Everybody just turns up empty handed? ... ..... ....Goodness, doesn't anybody have a proper sense of manners and what it means to be a hero anymore?
Caesar: ack! why are you attacking me without any kind of wording! Gawain: Pardon me. I simply decided it would be most expedient to skip the annoying explanations of your crimes. And it appears the collection notice was destroyed in our battle. An unfortunate occurrence but you will simply have to accept your fate -
Caesar: No, no, what you recieved earlier was merely a copy. The original, you see, was carefully stored in my bosom! Gawain: I SAID. UNFORTUNATE BUT YOU WILL SIMPLY HAVE TO ACCEPT YOUR FATE.
Protag: ... .... .....wasn't that. a little. over the top? For the situation and opponent? Gawain: Never fret, Master, I made certain to retrieve your materials before I burnt that blackguard to cinders.
Mordred: OW that's HOT! Dammit Gawain! Attacking me during the day - Coward! If you're a true knight, then spring a surprise attack on me at night, fair and square!
Gawain: ...why is one of the Great Knight medals missing? You can't use that catalyst. Mordred: I MEAN okay so I can't use it but I WANT it! Protag: Come on, a king wouldn't need a medal to prove themselves... Mordred: You're right! Come to think of it, I'm the one who should be GIVING those out!
Brynhild: I'm so terribly sorry. Seigfried had a cold, and Lord Caesar assured me that the hearts would invigorate a loving husband if cooked in a dish by a loving lady....
Gawain: closes his eyes If the hearts were used by a loving lady to care for her husband, then I have no just cause for anger. It is a shame that I lost hold of them, but I would have been obligated to give them to a lady who sought them for her lord's care anyway. Consider them a gift, in good health.
Brynhild: blushstartle What, really? I. You're so. I thought you didn't care about love! ...oh dear. Gawain: No, no, it's quite all right. I'm entirely accustomed to being percieved as stuffy! I'm often with Lancelot and Tristan, after all, and I must look terribly boring beside them!
(I like Fate!Lancelot, if only because he's such an utterly convincing fail fussbudget whose inability to figure out how to deal with Mash being his kid is amazing and iconic)
Mordred: Don't be HUMBLE ABOUT THAT, GAWAIN. YOU ARE LIKE. SO MUCH BETTER THAN THOSE ASSHOLES. EVEN YOUR WEIRD CRAZY BULLSHIT IS BETTER THAN THEIR WEIRD CRAZY BULLSHIT!!!!
(I might still be laughing over the bit in the Halloween rerun where Lancelot disguised himself as "The Mysterious Black Knight" once he realized that Mash was along in the party)
and the part where it's 15 years on or so and Isolde's like "actually I don't like either of you very much and I'm sick and tired of being fought over and living in a gd soap opera would you all just leave me the fuck alone"
oh! FGO game mechanics and cool characterization stuff - see, taking Servants into battle with you levels up their 'bond' points, their sense of committment and connection to the protag and their shared goals.
It unlocks bits of conversation at first, and then other rewards, and then, if you max out everyone other than Mash (Mash's status effects and all are storylocked, because in a lot of ways she's really the protag and the player character is more of her shadow sidekick)
Gawain: Pardon me. I simply decided it would be most expedient to skip the annoying explanations of your crimes. And it appears the collection notice was destroyed in our battle. An unfortunate occurrence but you will simply have to accept your fate -

...and you know. ...I mean, okay, she's got a point but also
Mordred: I MEAN okay so I can't use it but I WANT it!
Protag: Come on, a king wouldn't need a medal to prove themselves...
Mordred: You're right! Come to think of it, I'm the one who should be GIVING those out!
