ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
So help me out here, plurk. I am having a dumb plot problem. The situation goes thusly eta: fixed <3
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
Protag inherited a book that is magical (but e doesn't know this and it's a modern day kids go to another world story) but the lawyer guy who gave it to him knows its magical and dangerous
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
I need for Protag to get access to the book and at least open it in this scene
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
So at first I just had the book wrapped up in a box. But if the lawyer guy wants to keep him away from it, he would keep it somewhere safer
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
then I thought a cheap wood box with a cheap lock, but see exhibit A
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
then I thought a more expensive wood box with a lock -- but protag wouldn't damage a more expensive item to get the lock off with a knife
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
and metal box would be best but though I could have the character lockpick, that seems a bit much for him to do in a moving car
Gemini
so it's not a case of like, the lawyer keeping it somewhere safe that protag doesn't have access to but a dimwitted assistant could get to?
Gemini
like he actually handed over the book?
BruberryMuffin
How much personality does the book have? Can IT unlock any container it's put in? I've been listening to too much Magnus Archives.
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
Yeah he did. He didn't want to but he did because he was compelled
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
the book can but I sort of want it to be Protag's choice and/or actions
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
like he could have just hid it in the attic but he wnate dto open it
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
also protag can't be compelled XD
Gemini
gotcha. then, it could always be a situation where he would have liked to put it in a more secure container but it came to him as-is so short of locking it in a safe he has to just go with it, in which case the cheap box is fine.
Gemini
you could always use the compelling thing directly. if the book wanted to get into protag's hands then the book would make sure it wasn't put into a metal lockbox
Gemini
make it a genuine plot point rather than a plot hol
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
but there can still be a heavy lock
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
so lke a balsa wood box with a padlock on it but
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
you can take it off with a knife
Gemini
yeah, you don't have to make it easy mode :-D
Gemini
someone managed to get it in a box, but it happens to be a smashable box
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
I hope to get this damn story edited by December D<
Gemini
/grabby hands
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
Well he wouldn't smash it buthe has a pocket knife
Gemini
there you go
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
I had to restructure the beginning XD
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
It's hard work writing a book gosh!
Gemini
yes, yes it is
Tanarian
Kind of what Gemini said, but the box gets dropped accidentally.
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
Nah it's fine he's got a pocket knife. But thanks <3
Exacerangutan
as a thought, maybe a miscommunication/error and the wrong book winds up made safe, etc, maybe involving an assistant? maybe you already fixed it idk
Exacerangutan
like not necessarily a bumbling assistant, just an innocent mistake
Exacerangutan
or something urgent comes up and lawyer gets distracted and only realizes too late he didn't put the book away/forgot to lock the box/whatever
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
I've got it fixed thanks XD I should put that up
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
and it's not a bad idea but the situation is a lot simpler
ð”Ŋ𝔞ð”Ķð”Ŧ𝔟𝔎ð”ī 𝔭ð”Ķð”Ŋ𝔞𝔠ð‘Ķ~
because the lawyer is actually a family member -- though the protag doesn't really know any of that side of the family. And doesn't want to give the book but the book is making im
Exacerangutan
ahhhh
