[work] Man the advice banks give people is wild

Since I have some new folks, I work at a county government office collecting property taxes

On occasion we get payments that are meant for other counties with our same name, but in a different state, because online bill pays are the devil and should not be allowed to auto fill information for people

Also for reference, online bill pays through your bank are actually just asking a bank to mail a check for you, even though the money comes out of your account immediately

So I get a call from a lady who did a bill pay, it ended up with us, we mailed it back to her because it’s not ours

She calls and said her bank told her that they couldn’t put it back in her account because it was addressed to us and that we needed to write her a check for the amount

we literally never cashed the check I don’t even know where her bank came up with that shit

The lady was nice but it was just like ??? I’m sorry your bank told you we would do what

squints yeah the bank should just...cancel the check and put her money back in

sounds like whoever she talked to doesn't know what they're talking about lmao

YEAH like I don’t see how it would be hard for the bank to just void the check

But also I know sometimes people don’t know how to explain things so maybe she confused the bank person
