Team Skull: Finally, an ineffectual team we can like

One of my favorite part of the game is where the two Team Skull guys were trying to look imposing, but both their teams were beaten

so their only solution was to gesture HARDER AND FASTER

I mean it's clear they're going back to the supreme BASIC basics with pokemon; team skull had nice potential as a realistic threat before the plot made sure to make them a laughingstock upon their first encounter, rendering them harmless....

First they removed actual rivals and then they removed threats.

For the kiddies, right?

Now you have ~friends~ as your vapid bug-eyed protag wanders from town to town and nothing interesting happens

That is why I do like Team Plasma, though. Or rather, Ghetsis, the guy that wasn't told he's in a kids game.

Plasma were really unnerving extremists, and that's what made them work. There would naturally be idiots and extremists in any society

But I just wish Team Skull had a chance to be something better? But literally the first encounter they were comic relief dumbos and then YOU HIT P-TOWN

And it's like oh. my soul hurts. um.

And then the game frantically sweeps it all under the rug. And then the ultra beast plot under the rug. And then any semblance of plot under the rug.

A lot of things -start- and then never get a chance to breathe before they're forgotten... so that's why ultra sun and moon made me kind of grumpy- they never FINISHED SuMo and released some AU version which, also, was pretty unfinished

But that's what was good about SuMo. You had BOTH the jerk rival (Gladion) and the friendly rival (Hau), you had BOTH the ineffectual team (Skull) and the threatening team (Aether), and the ineffectual team was ineffectual on purpose and played for laughs (and drama, with Po Town).

so my Sword/Shield prospects are pretty fucking low.

USUM did suck, though. It basically took all the good stuff about SuMo's plot and messed it all up.

But if SwSh is as amazing and good and wonderful as SuMo, I'm hype.

I just want a finished game in an industry that is complicit with selling unfinished prototypes at 60 dollars a pop.
