I was on my way home on the subway when I heard a dad straight-up threaten his son

as in, "If you don't stop, it's the belt when we get home." not in a joking way at all, and the kid stopped (he was like, kicking a seat or something?) right after that.

I snapped a couple of quick pictures but I was pretty much at a loss beyond that and they got off a stop before me. I called CPS and the local cops anyway just to see if there was anything that can be done, but not really.

then I posted to the NYC subreddit like "hey is there anything else I can try" and lord the abuse apologists are coming out in droves
