in hiro's case, his own ingenuity is also a flaw in that it causes him to be arrogant and impulsive

and in the movie, good lord, this kid had just lost a significant member of his family and was clearly grieving and was probably in early stages of developing ptsd

so like. every time i hear someone talk about their dislike for genius characters, it just hurts me deeply

i love genius characters. the fact that they're brilliant at something shouldn't take away from any other facet of who they are or make them any less interesting to work with

and it's just like, of course that's not the relatable part of the character. but if you have a hang up on that characteristic feeling "unearned", then i think there's something else in your life that's giving you a bias towards that
