stupid pet peeve that drives me up the wall:
Quinneapolis
the inevitable panicked screaming that always comes up at the mere implication of Grappling Rules
Quinneapolis
like... it's 2019
Quinneapolis
games haven't been invariably making grappling rules a labyrinth of flowcharts since like 1992
Quinneapolis
it's OK to trust again
Gabiluzbad
Do people still panic at grappling?
dragon time
I like a good grapple
dragon time
I remember the first time I played DnD in middle school at a convention
dragon time
I was all about the grappling rules
dragon time
Despite my character being a pregenerated wizard
Gabiluzbad
excellent

But I had fun!!

It's a meme that hasn't been relevant since D&D 3.5
NekoInc, MSPM
Indeed... Though I will admit, Darths & Droids' overabsurd take on it is funny, it's also kind of the peak of joking about this
Rama
I'm also pretty sure that specific page is over 10 years old

3.0 hurt me too deeply, man.
NekoInc, MSPM
Yup, it is
Rama
Honestly I don't even know why D&D grapple gets singled out. You know what's worse than D&D grapples?
Rama
literally every combat system in a White Wolf game prior to NWoD and honestly the newer stuff isn't that big an improvement
Rama
I have to roll four separate handfuls of dice and reference at least two sourcebooks just to see if a werewolf punches a vampire successfully
Rama
Making sure to adjust all my dice pools based on whether it's a punch, kick, bite, haymaker, or wedgie
EsperBot
Two possible reasons for that
EsperBot
1) A lot more people play D&D than anything White Wolf has put out ever.
EsperBot
2) Nobody buys a White Wolf product for its robust combat engine. D&D is a war game in disguise.
Rama
That kind of makes my basic complaint even dumber, although I understand why it's not a meme. I just find it weird that the OG "narrative" game has such absurdly overcomplicated combat rules.
