so it's pretty much agreed that the Wachowski Speed Racer movie is an unacknowledged classic but is the Speed Racer cartoon actually good or not?

i find it very enjoyable but i'm incapable of telling how much of that is because it's exactly the sort of very anime melodrama i like but delivered in this completely incomprehensible proto-localisation way with geography and scale that bends in ways that have a perhaps unintentional emotional cachet to them

(the way the movie uses those surreal curved racetracks to imitate the way the anime depicts STRAIGHT ROADS is incredible)

They of course had no royalties and so both men present were appropriately bitter alcoholics who across the board hated all anime and had only the thinnest veil of sustain when talking about their work and fans. The one woman was the voice of Trixie, who had been hired because while waiting for her audition she washed the dishes.
