Steve Inskeep was emphasizing that it is not a partisan statement to point out that every time 45 goes on about being totally exonerated etc etc it is completely false. Which both amused and saddened me.
yeah it's not really taught much in most states. they spend maybe one month on it total during like middle school and go over the big events of WWII with minimal reference to the holocaust as a whole
I learned more about the actual holocaust and effects on Jews in High School when we did a play that was basically a bunch of monologues written by survivors strung together to form a narrative
i grew up with my father as a military history instructor. i got the privilege of being shown footage of the mass graves from the camp liberation operation
I don't remember what exactly I learned about the Holocaust in school, but I know I learned about it and all. And then a few years ago I went on my own to Auschwitz & Birkenau during an overseas trip. it was sobering
Ironically the only holocaust thing I did in school was in my English class. We read Night, all but my life, Anne frank, watched it’s a beautiful life and then went to see the pianist in theaters. I was trying to think of if I ever did anything in my history classes but not really. It was brushed over during ww2. Somehow I ended up obsessed with it by 3rd gr
I only learned so much about it because my 5th grade reading teacher specifically told us she had taken it upon herself to teach us about it, so all we did in her class was read about and learn about the holocaust, including a survivor coming in to speak to us
My class read Number the Stars in fifth grade, and talked about the Holocaust in a very age appropriate way. Then I read Night in seventh grade Honors English and my friend’s grandfather came to speak to us. He was the only member of his family to survive the Holocaust and showed us his tattoo from Auschwitz. It was...really impactful.
it REALLY doesn't help that american education is anywhere from 'decent' to 'shitbucket that actively encourages kids to actively doubt things that actually happened or IS HAPPENING' and GUESS what sort of person might want tell them 'the real truth'? Nazi's on the internet.

Americans’ Life Savings Disappear From Mexican Bank Accounts
