JV Club - Janet Varney (voice of Korra among other things) interviews women and, during the summer, men about their high school years, complete with a game of MASH at the end. Janet's awesome so this is a must listen every week.
88 Cup of Tea - This is my FAVORITE writing podcast. The host, Yin, is so sweet and positive and a wonderful interviewer, and there are a lot of great authors who appear on the show.
Wildlife Photography Podcast - This is one half of my Inspiration Tag Team. Some of the podcasts focus on things specific to photo safaris and technical camera stuff, but Gerry is also thoughtful about the creative process and how to evaluate your work.
Kayfabe 2.0 - My dark horse creative podcast. Yes, this is listed as a "podcast for fellow professional wrestlers" but Mike Quackenbush is a story telling genius with a real gift for both inspirational talks and breaking down the creative process.
Ghoul Intentions - J. Michael Tatum and Jamie Marchi narrating ghost stories. How can you go wrong? There's a fun vibe like you're sitting at the table with them.
OH! And I forgot LeVar Burton Reads on my list too. And it's kinda a must listen for me at this point when new episodes are coming out. I... probably don't have to explain that one, though.
Alright so, let's see here.... -Futility Closet: Husband/wife team on forgotten stories in history. Each episode ends with a lateral thinking puzzle that's always fun, thoughtful, and quirky -Nocturne: It explores the culture of the night, things like people with overnight shifts, radio programs at 2 AM, travelling on the road when no one else is awake, with
interviews and insight from people along the way -Pessimists Archive: Talks about how new changes and technology have been fought by people in the past, and as the podcast description puts it, defanging today's fears as well. Episode topics have included things like coffee, chain stores, the watlz, umbrellas, and the novel
-Ridiculous History, and Stuff You Missed in History Class: Two different podcasts on the same network, so I'm listing them together. One is strange events in history- like the story of Canadian margarine bootleggers -and the other focuses a bit more on people, like recent episodes on Alexandre Dumas and his father, but also has episodes about
forgotten pieces of history, or ones you know about but don't know about -Shmanners, and Sawbones: Two more on the same network, though this is the McElroy one this time. Shmanners is a look into etiquette and how it's changed over time, and Sawbones is a tour of old medicinal techniques and knowledge with one of the hosts an actual doctor
-The Soundtrack Show: Exactly what it sounds like. A look into the music and musicmaking of different soundtracks, usually focusing on multi-episode talks about influential movies -Twenty Thousand Hertz: A podcast about the forgotten, ignored, or oft missed sounds in our everyday life. Episodes have focused on things like
There's also a couple I've recently subbd too but haven't listened to much of, so not sure of the quality of these yet: -Household Name: Stories about, well, household names, like what's behind La Croix (and why it's so popular now), NASA, and Waffle House -The Complete Guide to Everything: Honestly the title tells you everything you need to know about
These all sound great! I’ve listened to a little Sawbones before... Maximum Fun is my favorite network... but I’m gonna have to listen to these during the week too.
this one. Each episode focuses on a specific topic like Coke, the Gameboy, and meditation, and delves deep into it -The Pirate History Podcast: A look through the Golden Age of Piracy, with something of a narrative trail through it
Ooh and if you've listened to Lore look into Unobscured too. It's going to have a second season at... some point? But focuses on a specific point in history where the facts have been fogged over and it makes them, well, unobscured. Season one focused on the Salem witch trials
Based on the ones you’ve recommended to me, I wonder if you’d like Oh No Ross and Carrie... they do investigations of the paranormal and fringe religions... it’s pretty interesting stuff.
