Bah. You just can't keep exotics without dedicating a lot of time, money, and energy. Maybe in a few years!

what size tank do you have, again?

if it's larger, and viv swatting into the top is the issue, you could always do a large shallow set up for a betta, which they prefer to deeper environments anyway

if you've got a good six inches or so from the top, the fish probably won't jump out and viv probably cant reach down in, especially if there's heavy tank decoration like leaves and wood (which again, they prefer anyway!)
